Historia de Arequipa

Its name comes of Quechua “Ari-que-pay” it means, “ yes , stays” .Arequipa is situated at the part where divides the central region and the south-center of the andes; so that these incorporates for this area the valleys of south part of Sihuas river.The separation was made more ostensibly in the impire Wari age that occupied from north valleys to sihuas.
The Age of mayor apogee identifies with the Churajón culture , it has a extensive occupancy of the valleys of Arequipa,with towns very dense and large agricultural projects that these expresses in irrigation works, andes and valleys entirely dominated. In Arequipa there are important places like : Casapatac, Sabandía o churajón, these indicates a dense population.

In the north valleys developed , at the same age that Chujarón, The Chuquibamba culture, with extensions in the south provinces of Ayacucho and contacts with Cusco.The settlements of this culture, generally identified with the Collaguas , these are especially notable in the Colca Valley.

In Arequipa, the Incas descended to the Yunga region looking for new conquests. On the slopes of the volcano misti ; the spanish conquistadors guided by Manuel de Carbajal founded the arequipa city. At the time republican had happended memorable revolutions as these of Ramón Castilla, Mariano Prado, Sánchez Cerro and others for those who has been called “warlords collective”.
Arequipa has become at the center of the complex economy of southern peru and it is one of milk producers largest of the country.

Besides, We can find beautiful resorts as Mejía,Mollendo,Camaná and thermal baths as Yura, Socosani and Jesús.
The Canyon of Colca,located in the province of Caylloma has more about 100km. Of large and its deeping begins after kilometers of Chivay arriving at the deepest point 3,400meters.It is considered the deepest of the world.The Zone of Colca is very appropriate to practice the tourism of adventure.(kayak, trekking,canoeing).

The reserve of Aguada Blanca is one of the major reservations for the reproduction of the vicuña, which owns American Calemid slim hair thinner for high -quality fabrics.

Its territory is rugged and characterized with the thick layers of volcanic lava that covered large portions of their interandine sector.P^resents deep canyons formed by the rivers Ocoña and Majes who oppose altitute plateaus half as the joya and other high altitute such as Pampa de wranglers and those that exist in the areas of Chivay, Huambo and Pichucolla. There are also volcanic cones emerging above the snow-covered plateau formed as Misti, Chachani, Ampato, Mismi, Solimana and Coropuna. In opposition to these high peaks, there are deep and impressive as the canyons of Majes, Colca, Sihuas and Ocoña, which can be seen clearly important aspects of the geological evolution of its territory.

On the coast, highlands and low-lying dunes are characteristic features of the desert of Arequipa. Particularly beautiful are developed and those reflected in the pampas of Majes, Sihuas and La Joya.

From the point of view hydrographic, rivers draining its territory belong mostly .In the Pacific Rim, but there are also some who belong to the system of the Amazon river basin.

Among its major rivers are the Ocoña, Yauca, Camana and Quilca. In the territory of this Department are the headwaters of the Amazon, the largest river on our planet.
